Coffee
At this time we don’t currently offer samples. You can try a selection of our coffee styles in our hand-picked bundles or choose a subscription with more than one coffee bag to try.
We recommend storing in a cool, dark place away from excessive heat, a kitchen cupboard or pantry works fine.
We can happily say that the only ingredient our coffee bags contain is exactly that, 100% freshly roasted coffee. The coffee may have different taste notes in their descriptors, but these only refer to how the coffee tastes and not the actual ingredients.
The only exception to this may be any additional seasonal flavoured coffees but these will be made very clear in the description and on the bag itself if any traces of other ingredients may be present.
There are zero calories in our coffee, when served as it is.
You can store your coffee beans in the freezer, some people do, however for the best taste and flavour we suggest to keep your coffee in a cool, dark place away from any excessive heat.
We also recommend consuming your coffee within 1 month of it’s roast date.
Coffee Accreditations
The Swiss Water Process is a patented process that uses only clean water (heat and time are also employed) to remove 99.9% of a coffee’s caffeine content.
The Swiss Water method uses no chemicals whatsoever, most other methods rely heavily on chemicals to remove the caffeine such as methylene chloride (‘MC’ decaf) and ethyl acetate (‘EA’ decaf – either naturally or synthetically derived). We choose not too, allowing no compromise on quality or taste.
The Swiss Water process coffees are a lighter shade of brown than those processed using MC or EA methods, making it easier to judge the roast levels by physical appearance alone. The Swiss Water process also tends to offer a smoother tasting coffee than alternates which tend to have the least impact on its original flavour profile.
The Rainforest Alliance is an international non-profit organization that started over 30 years ago in Central America. They were initially started to combat the quickly depleting rainforests that were being destroyed to make way for coffee farming and production.
Over the years however they have since expanded their reach and now work alongside farmers to improve sustainable livelihoods, human rights, provide better working conditions, and to help them adapt to improve their cultivation practices further to be even more environmentally friendly.
The seal means that the coffee was produced using methods that support the RFA’s three pillars of sustainability which are social, economic and environmental. Independent, third-party auditors evaluate farmers against requirements in all three areas before awarding or renewing certification. Their certification programs emphasize their commitment to continuous improvement, sustainability training, and clear benefits for farmers.
Fairtrade changes the way trade works through better prices, decent working conditions and a fairer deal for farmers and workers in developing countries.
The Fairtrade Minimum Price is the minimum that farmers’ organizations/producers are paid when selling their products through Fairtrade.
It aims to cover the average costs of sustainably producing their crop and acts as a safety net when market prices drop. Producers can get the market price when this is higher and can always negotiate for more.
The Fairtrade Standards are the requirements that producers and the businesses who buy their goods must meet for a product to be Fairtrade certified.
The Standards ensure fairer terms of trade between farmers and buyers, protect workers’ rights, and provide the framework for producers to build thriving farms and organisations.
Fairtrade is gradually empowering communities to organise into cooperatives and improve their negotiating position within the supply chain. This in turn enables them to negotiate a higher price for their product than the conventional market price.
Once farmers have qualified to be Rainforest Alliance Certified, they are helping create a sustainable future in the farming industry for coffee. They can also charge a small premium for their coffee that other farmers cannot.
As a consumer, when you purchase Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee, you are giving a small percentage back to these rural farming communities that are going above and beyond.
